Our Performing Arts Courses
The Talent Stop Part-Time Performing Arts Academy operates during term time with weekly classes in Acting, Dance and Singing within the same session.
Our current academies are in Thatcham on Thursdays, Sandhurst & Basingstoke on Fridays and Tilehurst, Sonning Common & Earley on Saturdays. We're always looking to open in other locations too.
The Talent Stop TODDLERS
½ hour sessions for 2½ to 3 year
olds
This is a very musical class introducing acting through mime, dance
through basic Ballet, Tap and Modern-Jazz and singing through nursery
rhymes and action songs.
The Talent Stop STARTERS
1 hour sessions for 4 to 6 year olds
The Talent Stop ACADEMY
2 hour sessions for 7 to
15 year olds
Our
Acting classes cover techniques for Stage and TV; including,
voice production, concentration, mime, improvisation, script and poetry.
Our Dance classes study HipHop 'n' Street and Jazz styles; including posture, coordination, strength, stretch, creative-expression and modern combinations for Shows and Pop.
Our Singing classes work on both Musical Theatre and Pop: including, tuning, breathing, rhythm and interpretation.
Each session begins with a group warm-up and we break for a few minutes between classes for drinks and rest.
Within the sessions, the students are grouped with children of similar age (no more than 16 per class), for three equal length classes in the three subjects and all students get to perform in the Grand Annual Show and Choreography Competition.
Even
Cooler Days
As part of each term at The Talent Stop ACADEMY we automatically include
Even Cooler Days where we swap a regular Acting, Dance or Singing
class for a class in another aspect of media and entertainment. This
constantly introduces new skills and could include anything from Stage
Fighting to Make-Up, Juggling to Costume Design, News Reading to DJ
Club Mixing! Plus, we’re open to suggestions; if there’s
a latest craze or a good idea from you, we’ll include that too!
Dance Essential with
Sapphire School of Dance
By offering students the option of adding Sapphire Dance Essential to
their day, we realistically train those who want to take things a little
more seriously as well as providing traditional dancing classes for
those who only aspire to the creative art form of dance.
Established in 1966, Sapphire School of Dance has a long-standing reputation for its excellence in dance training. Founded by Classic Old Time Champion, Peter Lilly with Classic Old Time Champion & high-kicking ex-Tiller Girl, Gillian Fisher, Sapphire teaches all styles to all ages. Their classes cover Ballet, Tap, Modern-Jazz, Lyrical, Ballroom, Sequence and Latin Dance, from 2½ years to adult & The Talent Stop is proud to offer its students the full benefit of Sapphire's expertise.
Within a disciplined environment, students are developed through the progressive grades of the Dance Teachers Federation and ISTD syllabi in a combination of different styles including Ballet, Tap, Modern-Jazz and Lyrical with examinations and medal tests actively encouraged and all students get to perform on stage in the annual show.
Dance Essential lessons usually last 1 hour for STARTERS (4 - 6 yrs), and 1½ hours for ACADEMY students (7 - 16 yrs) according to age and ability.
Our Adult classes run in Caversham on Wednesday evenings where we teach Tap, Ballroom, Latin and Sequence Dancing purely for fun. We also specialise in teaching and choreographing that all important Wedding Dance if you need a helping hand to get round the floor in style.
